"There are some Udo on that slope. Look. Can't you see it?"
"I'll show you a hidden field. Lots of wild vegetables grow there every year."
When you go into the mountains in spring, the people who live deep in the mountains of Mt. Hakusan discover wild edible plants in surprising numbers.
To someone unfamiliar with the area, it simply looks like a dense, green forest.
"If you look through the eyes of wild vegetable, you can't see anything but them."
Despite being one of Japan's leading heavy snowfall areas, they live in the deep mountains blessed with abundant nature.
The people of Shiramine have lived by combining their wisdom and ingenuity.
"A real old Japan" and an authentic way of life.
And here you will find a moment to learn about the past and contemplate the future.
About Countryside stay
"Countryside stay" is a style of travel where you stay in farming, mountain, or fishing villages, eat local food, and experience local culture. In Shiramine, where the remote mountainous region, it's called "forest stay."
While it is certainly just one of many travel destinations, each rural area throughout Japan has its own unique culture, and that is the very essence of what makes them "distinctive travel destinations."
Staying, eating, and experiencing life in a rural area is a journey that allows you to enjoy the region, share its "place of life" and culture with the residents, and connect it to the future. We want to be a region that plays a part in tourism where each traveler can find a rural area that resonates with their own life.
